Waterless Wednesday – 2/7/2018
Welcome to our first Waterless Wednesday, where we will provide 5 simple but great ways for you to save water throughout your day. It is now more important than ever to conserve water in any way that we can. Our tips are easy, but can save you a ton of water AND money if done consistently!
#1 Take shorter showers – Shortening your shower time, even by just two minutes you save up to 150 gallons per month.
#2 Test your toilet for leaks – Toilet leaks can be silent killers, wasting large amounts of water every day without you ever noticing! To test for leaks: put food coloring in your toilet tank, if it seeps into the bowl without flushing, there’s a leak. Fix it and start saving!
#3 Shaving? – Plug the sink to rinse your razor instead of running the water. Doing this can save up to 300 gallons per month.
#4 Conserve while brushing – Turning off the water while you brush your teeth can save up to 4 gallons per minute! A family of four can save up to 200 gallons per week using this tip!
#5 Waiting for the water to warm up? – While you wait, collect the running water for use around the house, for example, use it to water plants.
Come back next week for more water conservation tips!
In the mean time, check out our most recent blog post about California’s drought and reducing the reliance that residents and businesses have on snowfall to fuel the water supply:
WATERLESS URINALS CAN REDUCE OUR RELIANCE ON SNOWPACK
The wait-for-snow strategy won’t cut it much longer for Californians hoping to have water in 2018. Water demand will be great, shortages should be expected, and watching for snow isn’t a proactive solution. Nowhere is the measurement of snow more important than the drought-prone state of California.
